While food is essential to provide energy to our bodies, little are we conscious about what we feed our minds. If we were to compare between a large plate of fries and a plate full of fruits, we would easily tell that fruits is definitely a healthier option. However, what we keep on feeding our minds, we don’t realize.
In testing times, all the more being glued to television, newspapers or social media, our minds are constantly fed by what bad and wrong is happening in the world. While we focus on how many people died due to COVID19, we tend to ignore how many people recovered from the virus infection. While we focus on robberies in the city, we don’t see millions of people who slept well and peacefully last night. While we focus on protests happening for a social cause, we are ignorant of peace accords, policies, and better governance being put in place. While we speak of students unable to study in a school due to a technology breakdown, we are completely ignorant of the fact that millions of students and teachers world over have efficiently embraced online learning and are seamlessly carrying on for so many months now. While we may crib about not being able to go to our favorite restaurant and eat, we don’t realize there are millions who don’t have any food to eat that day. While we miss wearing our favorite dresses since we are home confined, we don’t realize there are people who are struggling to have clothes to cover their bodies. While we are constantly cribbing of things that we don’t have, we tend to ignore and are not grateful for so many blessings that we have in our lives.
We are naturally programmed to pick up negative things more easily and ignore the positives around us. This is because being positive is a conscious decision which we need to take every day irrespective of the situation around us. In the majority of the cases, the negatives around us may not affect us personally but they are powerful enough to cause anxiety and stress in us. Therefore being conscious of our thoughts, being conscious of what news we consume, being conscious of what social media feeds we consume is extremely important.
Feed the mind with fruits and not with a plate full of fries.
Very insightful
Thanks a lot Jaspal for the encouragement.
